The problem

Moth Hour pours soy and beeswax candles in a studio in southeast Portland. They shipped in stock white boxes with crinkle paper, and about one in forty arrived with a cracked vessel.

What we made

A roll-end tuck front mailer in black E-flute, sized 3 mm larger than the jar all round, with a folded card insert that holds the lid in place. Gold foil on the lid, ‘Light me slowly.’ printed inside.

The numbers

Breakages went from 2.5% to zero across the first 1,400 orders. At 2,000 units the printed mailer costs $1.12, less than the stock box plus crinkle paper they bought before.

What’s next

A matching shipper carton for wholesale orders, reusing the same dieline family so it prints on the same run.

We used to tape a thank-you card inside a plain white box. Now the box says it for us, and nothing arrives broken.
